PE - Children take part in one whole-afternoon PE session per week on a Thursday . Please can you ensure your child has the correct PE uniform in school all week (white top, dark shorts and jogging bottoms) as sessions may be changed due to weather conditions. During the colder months, it is advisable for your child to have a pair of jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt in school for outdoor sessions. Thank you.
DAILY 15- Children in all classes undertake 15 minutes daily of walking or running around the school grounds. These sessions are intended to increase the children's activity levels, develop fitness and stamina and help children take advantage of the numerous physical and emotional benefits of regular exercise.
In Owl Class, we usually take part in the daily 15 first thing in the morning, straight after registration. A great way to start the day! Children record the amount of laps they complete during the 15 minutes on a Friday - this helps us and them keep a track of the progress they are making.
Spellings - Spelling tests are on a Thursday morning. During the week children are taught new spelling rules and given chance to apply their new learning. In Owl class, we particularly focus on applying these words in context so children are not only learning how to spell the words, but are learning how to use them correctly. Children receive their new spellings on a Friday , which they write into their Pirate books. At home, we ask that children practise their spellings on three separate occasions before returning their book to school to be checked on a Thursday.
Multiplication Tables - Children will be tested on their times tables on a weekly basis and it is important children spend time at home practising the tables facts they are currently working on. When children know all their multiplication tables up to 12x12 and the related division facts, they will be expected to apply them in order to work out calculations using decimals and multiples of 10 (0.7x8, 70x80 etc)
Home Link - Each week we ask that the children complete a piece of homework in their Home Link Book. Each week, there will be a summary of what children have learned in school in English, maths and one other subject, together with a suggestion of possible homework activities. We ask that the Home Link books are handed in on Wednesdays to be given back out to the children on Thursdays.
